We find ourselves cutting our budget on things that we cherish only to fund our ever growing energy bills.

With costs spent on heating hovering between 40-50% of our bills, not to speak of the sudden price spike in winter time, one can only wonder if there is anything humanly possible that can be done to save on our spending.

Natural gas prices unfortunately, were not spared from the crude oil price increase. And we don’t even know the full impact until we’ll run into winter here in the Northern Hemisphere region.

There is a large option of natural gas heaters available on the market. Depending on your specific need you can find anything from outdoor heaters, garage heaters, big size or small heaters, or maybe a natural gas water heater, or a swimming pool heater, room heaters, and unit heaters – to even a gas wall heater. You name it.

The Natural Gas Heater blog is dedicated for discussing, reviewing and choosing the natural gas heater that’s right for your home, due to its high energy efficiency, eco-friendly emission, low-cost, easy operation, and ease up your spending limits on things you regard as important.

In the end, you just can’t tell your son or daughter that they will not be able to take soccer classes anymore because of high natural gas prices. It would be too painful.

The first steps to take in choosing the right natural gas heater for your heating needs is to calculate the strength (in BTU measuring units) that’s needed according to the size of your room (length, width and height), the climate you live in, and the insulation type.

Of course, there are other factors that play into it like natural gas type, altitude, method of heat distribution, but let’s just stick for now with the ones mentioned above (room size, climate type and room insulation).

Here is a handy calculator you can use to determine the BTU strength that will help you find the right size natural gas heater needed for your room:

Climate type or region:

Very Cold-New Hampshire, New York, Illinois Cold-Pennsilvania Temperate-Virginia, Akansas Moderate-Kentucky, Tennessee

Select your space Insulation:

Very little or none Poorly insulated Average insulation Good insulation

X

Ceiling height:

Watts:

Hope you will find this information useful to find the right size of your natural gas heater.

Answer:
Patio heaters. Make sure you have fresh air with it. They run on propane in bottles and heat about a 20 foot circle so people will huddle under them if cold like brooding chickens.
There are industrial heaters that blow heat try renting heaters the rental store will have ideas.

Question:

I just moved to a new apartment and we have a natural gas heater. It is a square gray thing in the wall with a pipe attached to it. How does this natural gas heater work? Does it circulate through the walls and warm all the rooms? It doesn’t seem to because when we close doors the rooms get cold?

Also, how expensive does it get? We have been keeping rooms closed that we don’t use during the day to conserve heat but do we really need to do that?

Answer:
Sounds like you have a unit heater, that is one that doesn’t have any ducts attached to it that force warm air into other rooms. It only heats the room it is installed in. You will have to keep the doors open on the rooms you want to get warm. If it has a filter, make sure it is clean, if not replace it. The cost of running any furnace depends on the size of the apartment and how well it is insulated. If the windows leak a lot of cold air into the dwelling, you can buy kits of shrink plastic that cover and seal the windows. I have a bedroom that I don’t use at all and I keep the door closed, it has to save a little money by not heating it.
